How to dye your hair pink (Assignment #2)

Brainstorm

Rubber gloves, toner, hair dye, a tinting brush, soft toothbrush, Vaseline, comb, old towels, an old shower-cap, dying your hair in brilliant colors, pink, green, blue, striking, messy, odd, awesome, you have to take good care of it, retouch it, your hair becomes dry afterwards you have to use conditioners and stuff, last year I dyed my hair pink twice

How to dye your hair pink (or whatever other rather striking color)

Last year, I had a mania of dying my hair pink. I love that color and I wanted it on my hair. I had to beg my mom a lot, but I won every fight, so I got my hair colored pink twice last year. I search for a lot of information and stuff, I wanted to get it right, so I will provide you all I know about this subject.

Depending on the color and the intensity you want, you need to bleach your hair. For example, I wanted my hair pink, but my natural hair is dark brown. I had to bleach it to a very light yellow so the color would be bright. My personal opinion is that you get it bleached with a professional, but it is very simple to dye your hair if you follow these steps.

First of all you’ll need rubber gloves, hair dye of your favorite color, a tinting brush or a soft toothbrush, a bowl, Vaseline, comb, old towels, and an old shower-cap. Before you start, try to have everything in hand when you start. Now is the time to put on your rubber gloves. Afterwards, squeeze on your hair dye in a bowl and stir it up with the brush. Then, put on Vaseline on the edges of your face and on your ears so your skin doesn’t get messy.

Okay, so your hair is yellow now, remember it because in a few moments later it will turn the color you always wanted :D. Apply the hair dye, with the toothbrush, tinting brush or even your fingers. Make sure the dye it’s all over the place, from the roots to the ends of your hair and comb it through. Next, put on the shower cap, the heat and moisture helps the color sink in better. Wait for a little more time than the one that says on the box of the hair dye. Then, go in the shower and rinse until the water runs clean and shampoo. Finally, just dry your hair, see yourself in the mirror and smile to the cutie in front of you.

Slumdog millionarie questions

1)What does the title mean? How does the title and the contrasts within it provide symbolic summary of the film?

Slumdog Millionarie is like a millionarie that comes from a poor family.
That Jamal was a poor guy that pass for a certain series of cruel evnts and that at the last he become millionarie in a game.

2)Early in the film we see the young Jamal dive into a latrine pit to steal a glimpse at a visiting movie star. How does his single-mindedness to see this movie star reveal his determination?
What other examples do you see in the film of his determination?

That he do what neccesary to obtain what he want in that case the autograph of the artist. Another example in the movie is that he always do everything he can to see Latika and try to rescue her.

Slumdog Millionaire questions

In the film, the theme of destiny is a central theme. What does it mean that all Jamal desires are just out of his reach? (The prized autograph, Latika, his brother, the answers, etc.)

I guess he had the bad luck to have to work much harder to get what he wanted than other people. I’ve seen people that get what they want when they want, it’s just the way it is, but Jamal was all the other way around, he did have to work for everything he got. Or maybe he just had to live past through that to become what he is now. It’s just matter of your criteria, if you believe in destiny or not.

Compare and contrast three pivotal choices or decisions made by Jamal and Salim. How do their choices affect their respective paths in life or “destinies”?

These boys went through a lot of things that may seem like little stuff but really changed their lives. For example, Jamal helping Latika when she was in the middle of the rain, who would've think that they would fall in love after. Also, when Jamal and Salim ran away from the bad guy to be finally free and when Salim made Jamal go away because he wanted to be with Latika, and Jamal had to survive by himself but later he found them. Everything happened for a reason, and every little thing that happened to Jamal helped him in some way to become a millionaire and be with Latika <3

Is ethical decision making possible when one must make choices based on survival? Do seemingly “bad”choices make a person bad?

When somebody’s life is at risk, I think everything is possible. “Survival of the strongest” is the real deal. I don’t agree with that, that a person is a bad one, if he takes a bad decision. We all make mistakes, or do something wrong, but it really depends on the situation. For example, in the movie that Salim kills the guy that made them ask for money when they were young. I think it was okay, because the guy would be still treating like that the other poor kids, so he may have done a very drastic thing, but it was all for the better.

slumdog millionaire questions

What do you think the film is saying about globalization of culture through media? We see the game show “Who wants to be a millionaire?” adapted in the Indian culture. Is this a sign of progress? Why or why not? What is this film saying abut the effect of money on culture?

When we think about India, we think that they are dumb and poor and that they don’t have much money because that’s the idea we have about India, but that’s not really true, we just haven’t seen the good thing there are in India. I think is a sign of progress because we can see in the film that there are rich or smart people in India; there are also nice buildings and houses and other new things. India has improved through the years. The effect of money on culture is pretty strong. If we see a country or city with a lot of money, we will think good things about their culture, but if we see them with little money, than we will automatically think that they have a poor culture and bad habits or things like that.

In one exchange of dialogue in the film during the interrogation of Jamal, the police inspectors discuss the impossibility of what Jamal knows.
Police Inspector: Doctors... Lawyers... never get past 60 thousand rupees. He's on 6 million. [Pause]
Police Inspector: What can our slum dog possibly know?
Jamal Malik: [quietly] the answers.
Discuss the irony in the film that Jamal “knows too much” and is suspected of cheating. Discuss the irony that in the end, his poverty may make him rich. What point is the film making? What is real wealth?

Since Jamal was a poor boy when he was young, and know he works as a tea boy, how could he possibly know so much? That is the irony. Where did he learn everything to be able to answer every single question at the game show? Jamal knows too much to be just a tea boy and that causes many to think that he is cheating. Jamal didn’t go to school or didn’t study college or anything; he didn’t really have an education. So he didn’t learn all these things from there.

Jamal’s poverty actually made him rich. Maybe Jamal didn’t go to school and have a great education, but he sure learned a lot to be able to answer those questions. Jamal went through so many things as young, and those experiences are the ones that taught him everything. He didn’t need studying or a great school, he learned everything from what he had to deal with when he was little. So the film wants us too see that just because poor people don’t have education, it doesn’t mean they are dumb; they might know as much or even more as us. They have to deal with so many things in life, they get many rough times and rough experiences that teach them things about life and other things. Real wealth is not about how much money you have or where you live or where you go to school, it’s about what you learn in life without mattering how you learned.

The game show format brings into to focus the culture of meaningless competition. What does the spectacle of the game say about what people value today? What values do the media promote? Are they humanizing values?

Today, people are all about money; money is more important to them than most things. And in the film, since Jamal didn’t have money, everyone thought that a poor boy like him would know absolutely nothing and that’s why they thought that he was cheating. The media promotes the same values. That’s also why we are so into money, because the media fills our heads with stuff. They have gotten many to think that having money is EVERYTHING and that it makes you happy and makes you good, and that having no money is not cool or makes us losers, but it’s not true. Money is not everything, there are much more important things.
The chaos and the constant noise and motion of Mumbai at the center of the film, (supported by a fabulous soundtrack) are contrasted with a deeper silent seeking. Describe what each of the main characters is seeking.
JAMAL: first of all the thing he most wanted was to be with Latika, because he had been in a lots of thing for her and with her, most of what he did was for her and to be with her, it wasn't about money or cars or houses, it was only for him to be with Latika. He wasn't too much interested in money he only wanted peace and a nice life.
SALIM: he was more interested in the money, since he was a little boy he had wished money, wealth, but he never got it because of his life style, so when he grew up he did many thing including killing to get what he wanted.

In the final scene, we see Salim and the choice he makes - filling the bathtub with money, etc. Why does he make this choice?
Salim made this choice because after going through many bad thing in his life to get what he had, he knew he was gonna die so what he did was getting the most important thing he had which was money and put it into the bathtub and decided to die with the it. He knew that money was the reason for him to die, he was a poor child and know that he had money and was going to die he wanted to die with his money so he wouldn't be alone.

This film weaves together nightmare and impossible dream. What do you take away as the most important message or impression from the film?
I think the most important message of the film was that you should never give up, try till death and fight for what yo want. It also talks about beleaving in what you whated and being honest will make you a winner.

Slumdog Millionaire Questions

*Greed, corruption and the misuse of power are highlighted in the film through a variety of characters. How are those who have money and power glamorized in this film? What happens to the victims?

The power ones in this film were the guys that had all these poor kids asking in the streets for money and that were rich with this huge chains of gold and every time with money available. They seem like killers and for example the kids, to make them ask for money they take their eye off, and that way people will be like aww poor kid and give them more money. They hurt innocent people just because of power and money. Or the girls when they grow up, the rich guys made them like dancers but not the normal ones…

*In one pivotal scene, the show’s host tells Jamal his own story about coming from the slums. He then gives Jamal the wrong answer written on the mirror in the rest room. Why did he give Jamal the wrong answer? What did Jamal do?

He gave him the wrong answer because he saw that he was winning one time and again and again, so I think he kind of wanted to stop it because the money was too much and he couldn’t handle too much power for Jamal, it might be jealousy or a way to prove that he was cheating or something of that kind. I think was because Jamal every question was getting it correct, with his experiences in life that make him think of the correct answer.

* Describe how loss, chance, luck, suffering, and street smarts are also characters behind the scenes. The film explores gain and loss side by side. Triumphs are tempered with loss. Where do you see this evident?

In every part of the movie I think there is loss, for example when the mother of Salim & Jamal dies. Chance when they just run for their life during all that scandal of killing people like animals. Luck that they weren’t kill or that they found the way out of their crappy life with the rich guy overpowering them. Suffering when Jamal was taken apart from Latika and they were likes really good friends well, more than just friends, so their suffering goes.
I mostly saw that all is combined from all the experiences of the kids, all the killing among their life when they separate and see each other again.
